Before He Was The Incredible Hok
Let's rewind. Josh Hokit walked on at Fresno State, became a two-time All-American wrestler, played fullback in the same backfield, and got signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent. Legitimate freak athlete. Then he opened his mouth.
The Circus Begins
His "Incredible Hok" character had him delivering press conference gems like "I will never understand how Dan Hooker can like another man, when you can come to the sand and see a nice booty with a nice tan." Curtis Blaydes just sat there.
From Bad to Worse
He dropped the N-word at UFC 324. He called Brittney Griner and former First Lady Michelle Obama men. The UFC 324 promo was lambasted by several outlets, and even Dana White couldn't defend it. Fans were calling him the cringiest fighter in the history of the sport. Blaydes summed up the general mood perfectly: "He's a clown act. I get it, but it's not my thing. I'm just here to fight."
Then UFC 327 Happened
For 15 minutes in Miami, Hokit and Blaydes turned in a potential Fight of the Year. Hokit busting Blaydes up through exchange after exchange, Blaydes wobbling him right back, neither man going down. They landed over 300 strikes combined, unofficially the most significant strikes ever thrown in a three-round UFC heavyweight fight. Blaydes walked out with a fractured orbital bone and a broken nose.
Walking the Talk
Hokit won unanimously. He pocketed $200k in bonuses. Dana White, who spent the whole week cringing, said he'd "walked the talk."
Only Hokit
Then while literally getting into an ambulance, Hokit agreed to fight Derrick Lewis on the White House lawn on June 14. He posted from the hospital: "No broken bones cuz I'm made of steelโฆ y'all are welcomeโฆ 200k."
Love him or hate him, the man is 9-0 and just delivered one of the most entertaining heavyweight fights in years. The Incredible Hok is heading to the White House lawn.
Don't twist his noodle, toy poodle - I know who i'm picking for UFC Freedom๐
